KIM RICHARD ADLER MEJDAHL DAYS OF AL

14.06 17-19

DAYS OF AL

ORGANON ser frem til at vise Kim Richard Adler Mejdahls gotiske landbrugsgyser DAYS OF AL

FILM SCREENING: DAYS OF AL

Organon is looking forward to screen DAYS OF AL - a gothic farm thriller by Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl.

The pig is in many ways an inseparable part of the Danish self-image. In DAYS OF AL, the conditions under which the national dish is produced are used as a horrifying metaphor, for how violence and horror can become so interwoven with daily life it starts to resemble a scary second nature. During the course of the film, the viewer is presented with some crucial days in the life of a nameless young man. We follow his attempts to delve into his past, the life of his dysfunctional family on a small farm, and ultimately we see how this attempt to grasp the past results in a dissolution and alienation towards his own body and towards the outside world.

Throughout this story of past and psyche the viewer is bombarded with both visual and auditory effects. The accompanying soundscape, which was published as an separate soundtrack on the label Cech Records, was created under the artist’s musician pseudonym Kim Kim. The use of experimental electronic music mixed with dump rhythms, pig’s howling, bird song and whispering voices combine to form a powerful dialectic with the movie's use of timelapse, slow motion sequences, stop motion, special effects and CGI animation. DAYS OF AL reminds us, just as some of Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl's previous projects, that even though spooky effects can make our hearts skip a beat, there is still nothing more eerie than the seemingly normal, under which surface tales of horror, failure and violence lurk.

BIO: Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in May 2019 and holds a BA from the Funen Art Academy. Last year he was awarded the jury's solo prize at Charlottenborg's Spring Exhibition for his works ODE and No Ozone, and DAYS OF AL was made on invitation for this year's Spring Exhibition. Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl's art is characterized by a great openness towards his personal past that defines him as an artist. By not only including his childhood and youth traumas in the themes he examines, but by also casting close family members (and his dog) as actors, a particularly crude intimacy arises in his art.
